“Why Cruise Passengers Are Asked to Turn Off Lights and Close Curtains in Certain Waters”

Travelling aboard a luxury cruise ship can be quite an experience, but what many don’t know is that it sometimes comes with an unusual “threat.” A passenger on the Cunard Queen Anne ship, embarking on an 111-night ‘maiden World voyage’ from Hamburg,

Germany, revealed that passengers were warned to shut off lights and draw curtains as the ship traveled through piracy-prone areas. In a TikTok video with over 8 million views, the captain warned nearly 3,000 travelers onboard about a “heightened level of security alertness” due to the ship passing through dangerous waters like the Sulu-Celebes Sea.
