On April 4, 2025, Gabriel Andrews, a 9-year-old student from Frankfort, Kentucky, tragically lost his life after being swept into floodwaters on his way to catch the school bus. Gabriel and his older sister were walking to their regular bus stop in the Hickory Hills area when he slipped into the fast-moving water.

The incident occurred at 6:35 a.m., and search crews found Gabriel’s body at 8:47 a.m., about half a mile from where he was last seen. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office confirmed his death shortly after.Gabriel, who had just celebrated his 9th birthday on April 1, lived with his widowed mother, Racheal Tibbs Andrews. Local residents shared concerns about the dangerous conditions for children, as Gabriel’s apartment complex required them to cross a drainage channel to reach the bus stop, which was flooded that morning.
