They Tore Mom Down…

Kathleen Dehmlow, who died at 80, gained internet notoriety due to a scathing obituary published in Minnesota’s Redwood Falls Gazette. It revealed she became pregnant by her husband’s brother in 1962, abandoned her children, and left them to be raised by their grandparents. The obituary declared,

she “will not be missed” and that “the world is a better place without her.” The harshness led to its removal from Legacy.com and sparked mixed reactions. A relative, Dwight Dehmlow, defended her, saying she regretted her past. The obit joins a history of brutally honest send-offs in American newspapers.
