Second child dies after ‘poisoned Easter eggs’ sent to family

A second child has died after a Brazilian woman allegedly sent poisoned Easter eggs to her ex-boyfriend’s new partner in an act of revenge. Mirian Lira received the chocolates with a note reading, “With love, to Mirian Lira. Happy Easter,” and shared them with her two children.

Her 7-year-old son, Luis, fell seriously ill and died on April 17. Mirian and her 13-year-old daughter, Evelyn, were already in the hospital when they began showing signs of poisoning. Evelyn later died on April 21 from multiple organ failure.Police arrested Jordélia Pereira Barbosa, the ex-girlfriend of the children’s father, after surveillance footage showed her buying the chocolates while wearing a wig. Investigators suspect jealousy and revenge were the motives. Mirian remains hospitalized but is in stable condition.
